Australia has had another record month for rooftop solar

This past month of August has delivered another record for the Australian rooftop solar market, setting Australia up for what is almost certain to be an all-time record year.

So far the first eight months of 2018 have already exceeded the volume registered in any year, aside from 2017, with nearly 1GW so far.

August amounted to a total of 142MW of solar installs on both residential and commercial rooftops according to the latest data from PV market analyst SunWiz. The record month of installs was bolstered by growth in the residential and small business sectors.

NSW continued to lead the installs, with 41MW for the month, overtaking Queensland. The only state to fall was Victoria, possibly the unintended result of the state Labor government’s proposed 50 per cent rebate.

“August’s growth came from 6.5-8kW systems, plus some growth in the 10-20kW range. The volume in all other commercial size ranges also grew, with the exception of 75-100kW range,” said SunWiz managing director Warwick Johnston.
